Pizza!

How many bites does it take to eat a Patsy's slice?

Mr. Slice in Action.

I won a prize!
Last night was a night of firsts. First time I've eaten dinner out since my surgery. First time I've had beer since my surgery. Most importantly, tonight was the first time I've eaten at the original Patsy's Pizzeria in East Harlem. Patsy's is a 15-minute walk from my apartment but for whatever reason I haven't gone there until now.
First, though, a prologue. I caught a ride home this evening with Jon and Janet. Only people whose names start with "J" can ride in Jon's car. Anyway, they were quite interested that I was going to Patsy's tonight, and even more interested that I was going as part of a pizza club.
That's right it was time for another Slice Pizza Club adventure (you may remember the previous trip. To celebrate Slice's first anniversary the Slice Pizza Club, this time Janice, Jen, Janelle, Youngna, Danny, Tien and Slice editor and publisher Adam, met at Patsy's.
Patsy's makes thin, charred crust pizza in a coal-fired oven. I really enjoyed their sauce, which seemed to be little more than crushed tomato. We shared five pizzas. Two plain, one with fresh mozzarella, one mushroom, and one sausage and onion. All five were very good. My favorites were the plain and fresh mozzarella pies. Unlike in New Haven, plain here means with cheese and sauce. The second plain was outstanding. The sausage and onion pie was the weakest of the lot. They use raw onions, which have a lot of moisture and don't really get cooked.
There was a raffle to celebrate Slice's first anniversary. I won! Yee haw! The prize was a copy of American Pie: My Search for the Perfect Pizza by Peter Reinhart. Thanks Adam and Slice!
