More of The Gates

When the loops are pulled on Saturday morning the fabric will be unrolled.

Stack of vinyl squares that are used to literally cover the nuts and bolts at the base of the poles.

The poles are adjusted to be vertical on sloped surfaces.

One of the assembly crews. There are seventy-five crews of six people each putting the gates up this week. They get nifty vests!
I'm going to be out of town or otherwise not available for half the time The Gates are going to be on display so I'm trying to take in as much as I can while the artwork is under construction. I noticed that the Central Park Conservancy has been readying the Dana Discovery Center to be one of several gift shops for The Gates. While you can't get vests like those above, I'm sure all sorts of crap will be available. All proceeds will go toward parks or arts organizations in New York.
Update: I just happened across the The Gates @ Central Park blog and photoshare.
Thanks for plugging my Gates blog! I'm hoping that central park visitors will want to contribute to the site. Everyone who visits The Gates is encouraged to post photos, text and voicemail to the site, so we can create an archive of public commentary on the event. All you have to do send a message to the site's email address or call its voicemail number, and the site will post it automatically.
thanks,
ac
