Two new public art projects are being unveiled in the Hudson River Park on Monday. One of them is a big paddle wheel that sits in the river at the end of pier 66 (at 26th Street). I went to get a picture of it but the pier was blocked off Saturday afternoon.
A short ways northward is "Two Too Large Tables" by Allan and Ellen Wexler. Both tables are 16 feet on a side and are supported by 13 chairs. The chair backs on the tall table hold a seven-foot high roof. Chairs also form the legs of the lower table, which is at a normal height. The Wexlers designed the tables to encourage interaction by those who sit there and can tolerate the constant chop of helicopters taking-off and landing nearby.
Unrelated but important: If you are getting me only one gift this Christmas, make it this one. Ha!
