Counting time spent in check-in and waiting for luggage afterwards, the flight from Las Vegas to New York takes about six hours, for an average speed of 425 miles an hour. The 17-mile AirTrain to A train to 1 train to 3 train trip from JFK to my apartment took two hours, about 8.5 miles an hour. I don't know what that means other than I am home.
Gertrude Stein infamously said about Oakland "There is no there, there" but she was actually predicting 21st century Las Vegas. With few exceptions I find the city completely uninteresting. As soon as my work in Las Vegas was done I was off to Death Valley in California and Zion Canyon in Utah as well as points in between. Someday I will finish writing about last fall's Ohio trip, and then it will be on to lots of pictures of rocks, sand and cacti. Fun!
Welcome home, Joe! Beautiful photo. I look forward to the whole batch of deserty pictures.
