I recently found this French soft drink in the walk-in cooler at Fairway. Rhuby Soft, sans alcool, is a rhubarb-flavored soda. It certainly tasted rhubarbery. I almost liked it. The soda had a weird syrupy-sweet thing going on that was not to my liking. Let the rhubarb speak for itself, I say! If I try it again it shall be mixed with gin.
If you've ever taken the train through Trenton or driven across the Delaware on US-1 you've probably seen the Trenton Makes - The World Takes sign on the Lower Trenton Bridge. The original sign, in giant metal letters, went up in 1911, a year after the Chamber of Commerce adopted the slogan to represent the city as a manufacturing powerhouse. Although it is short and rhymes, to my ear there's more than a hint of bitterness in the slogan. The sign went neon in 1935 and the most recent improvements were made in 2005.
The Frederick Douglass statue was briefly unwrapped on Monday of this week. It was wrapped when I walked by on Sunday afternoon and Lynn reports that it was wrapped again on Tuesday. The picture above was from this evening.
Happy Earth Day! As part of the ongoing Million TreesNYC campaign the city recently planted seven trees in the middle of the sidewalk on St. Nicholas between 118th and 119th streets. Was that intentional or should the trees have been planted next to the street like every other street tree?
Above is Michelle wishing future husband Greg a happy birthday at the
murder mystery night party she organized some
six years ago. Michelle passed away last week. She was much too young. Her courage and optimism gave her the strength to survive an illness much longer than anyone could have expected. I could write more but I'm afraid I'll get all sappy and sentimental and I don't want to have the teacher look of disapproval staring down at me.
Instead we'll move ahead. There is a mysterious fire to report on, a new grove of trees has appeared in the neighborhood, videos were shot on the way to and from Washington, and a leafy soda was consumed. All that needs to be reported before vacation time arrives next Thursday. Onward!
