Please do not put your feet on the wall

Feetonwall

What does this mean?  Do they have problems with people putting their feet on the wall?  Is it meant to be one sentence?  This is on the fancy building, I think it is a bank, on the southwest corner of 14th and 8th.

PS 19 on East 12th St. is adorned with several signs by the school's students imploring passers-by to keep the school quiet and clean.  One of the signs had an extra note of encouragement from Stevey Ray, "the sometimes here sleeping homeless man that always cleans up after himself".

The Bels are Ringing

Post_no_bels
This has been a tough week for those in the creative arts.  Everyone has heard of Harvey Korman and Bo Diddley dying.  Two other people are worthy of mention.  Alton Kelley died this past weekend.  He was the artist responsible for the concert posters that have come to define 1960s San Francisco.

Also dying was Earle Hagen, the composer of theme songs to many television series including "The Andy Griffith Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Gomer Pyle", "The Mod Squad", "I Spy" etc.  He was also the composer of "Harlem Nocturne" the saxophone standard that has been covered at least 500 times.  You can hear 42 of those covers via WFMU.

Not dead but still worth mentioning, my friend Jake of Bluejake fame is one of the photographers featured in WNYC's street photography series.

Old Photos, Old Signs

I had occasion this evening to browse through my pictures from a couple of years ago when I came across these two.  It doesn't appear that I ever put them up here.  A building was being renovated on West 14th St. and the two ghost signs were visible for a few days.

Half Roasted

Half_roasted

There's nothing tastier than chicken that's half roasted.  Hot on the outside, cold on the inside.   Mmmm, yum!

Keep Clean

Cafe_lalo_rules

I had an exciting evening of routine computer maintenance.  Exciting is not the right modifier in that sentence.  Did you know that Firefox for the Mac doesn't delete previous versions of your bookmarks file?  After a couple of years use those suckers begin to take up space.

Dinner was exciting, if it doesn't take much to excite you.  I tried a Malabar Chicken mix I found for only $1.99 in Kalustyan's.  Throw the mix together with chicken parts and water and cook in a saucepan for 25 minutes.  It turned out a little spicy and a lot delicious.

The Hustler Barber Shop was such a hit on Flickr that I thought I should share it here.  Or, I'm just being lazy.
