I finished reading Robert Sullivan's Rats a couple of days ago. The book is about the history of rats, their interactions with people, and people's efforts to understand and control them. Most of Sullivan's reporting is set in New York. Specifically Edens Alley in downtown Manhattan, where he spent a year watching rats at night. I'm not sure if it is Edens Alley or Eden's Alley, I see it used with and without the apostrophe. Sullivan does not use the apostrophe. He did a lot of research other than hanging out in the alley and he writes with a quirky sense of humor. I enjoyed the book, but there were no pictures of the alley. So I decided to take a look. While there was evidence of rats, the alley was actually pretty clean. Maybe I'll have to return to see how it looks at night.
