I rarely have need to be in Madison Square Park but last night I found myself there for the third time in the past week. I was there to see the band Hem play. Their mostly acoustic music is gorgeous, gentle and timeless. The skies were threatening at first but it never rained and the band put on a good show. They played songs from their debut cd, Rabbit Songs and their new cd, which will be released in the fall.
There are free concerts Wednesday evenings in Madison Square Park this summer. Check their website above for the schedule. Also in the park are several sculptures by Mark di Suvero, including Double Tetrahedron:
di Suvero led the transformation of an abandoned landfill on the East River in Queens into the Socrates Sculpture Park. At least one reader might also be reminded of one of di Suvero's Old Glory.
