Harlem Blues Café, 116th and Lenox
It looks like two new restaurants will be opening soon on 116th Street. Ginger Express has a non-operational website and is in the 1400 on 5th building. The Harlem Blues Café is a couple of doors down from Amy Ruth's.
Last night Tien may have started a regular Wednesday evening get together at Croxley Ales. Buffalo wings were only ten cents apiece and the beer was good. Despite the weather, Tien, Halo, Christiona, Jeannette and Eleanor came out and we had a good time. Jeannette brought us some very special cotton candy-flavored Bubblicious gum for dessert. Mmmm.

You didn't think that I ran out of photos from my vacation last month did you? I ran it by the executive editor of this site and he said there are no restrictions on posting. I'm allowed to post what I like when I like. Nice guy that editor. These are of a hike I took near Middlebury, Vermont.

So I'm getting ready for work this morning when I look out the window and see someone dressed as a giant strawberry. You don't often see people dressed as giant strawberries in my neighborhood so I was understandably excited. A few minutes later I walk out of the building and there is a person dressed as a giant wedge of Swiss cheese not twenty feet away. I took this as a sign that today was going to be a very special day. I mean, how often do you see people dressed as a giant strawberry AND a giant wedge of Swiss cheese in the same day? Fresh Direct, which is an online home delivery grocery service here in New York was letting everyone know that they now deliver to the 10026 zip code. I probably won't ever use the service, but it is nice to know that they have these giant produce and dairy costumes.
Because some of my younger relatives read this site, and I'm a semi-responsible uncle, I tend to refrain from using profanities but I couldn't pass up this sign (click on the thumbnail to super-size). Nothing like a little vigilantism on the walk to the bus in the morning. I have a pretty good idea to whom they are referring. I don't think literacy is one of his strong points. He has long scraggly hair and beard, always wears a green army coat, and can sometimes be seen mumbling incoherently near Ollie's at 116th and Broadway. You can also catch him begging for money on the 2/3 or 1/9. He's the guy crawls through the subway car on his knees. It is hard to tell if he is totally strung out or just not all there mentally.

What to do? I bought two quarts of tart cherries at the Greenmarket this morning. They are pitted and sugared and waiting in the fridge until I decide how to cook them tomorrow morning. I wonder if this is a bad year for cherries. There was a noticeable drop-off in quality from last week, when I made muffins and a cake, to this week.
