At the start of this year I began transcribing the diary my great-great grandfather, Vincent DeLong (pictured above), kept in 1864. Until yesterday his diary entries were pretty sporadic. There's a diary entry for nearly every day from here on out. The diary is not a large book, but beginning in a couple of weeks he fits a lot of writing into a small space.
On this date in 1864 Vincent begins his journey from northern New York down south to fight in the Union Army.
emma, "who's that?" looking at vincent's photo.
judy said, "one of your ancestors."
emma heard, "aunt-sisters"
emma replies, "no, that's an uncle-brother"
where are you going next week?
