As many New Yorker's know, a sculpture named "The Alamo" has been located at Astor Place for nearly 40 years. Earlier this Spring the big black cube was removed by the Parks Department for repairs.
In its place some students put up the jelloCube. The replacement has since collapsed or been taken apart, but it hasn't been removed from the traffic triangle. In fact, it is entangled in the crowd-control fencing a few feet away from where it was installed.
The top photo is from a couple of weeks ago and the bottom photo from this past weekend. You'd think trash would be accumulating beneath the thing. I assume the space is being cleaned out fairly often. Who is cleaning it? How long will it be there? Is there enough room for the original and its replacement on the triangle? How is it related to the shiny Sculpture for Living (which is no actually a sculpture but a new condo building)?
