Common Egret
Praying Mantis
The praying mantis was next to the Geosciences building this afternoon. It was not happy with me sticking a camera in its face and flew away after only a couple of photos. The egret was in the Morningside Park pond. It was indifferent to having its picture taken. The turkey was nearby but not in the pond.
I've noticed this new camera doesn't handle bright light as well as my previous camera. It oversaturates very readily. It took a bit of manipulation to darken the egret and the back is still oversaturated.
my camera does the same thing. oh well.

Nope, it's a Great Egret.
In the US, we have two types of egrets - Great and Snowy. The Great are large with yellow beaks and black feet; the Snowy are small with black beaks and yellow feet. People often think that they're baby/child Egrets but Egrets don't leave the nest until full-grown.

My 30-year old bird identification book only mentions the Common and Snowy Egrets. I was confused. Then, I learned that the Common Egret got a promotion
