Northern Spy, Golden Delicious, Macoun, Mutsu (aka Crispin), and Rhode Island Greening apple varieties.
Saturday was a good day at the greenmarket. The apples on either end are for cooking. Perhaps apple cupcakes. The three in the middle will be eaten as is. It hasn't been a good year for the Honeycrisp variety, one of my favorites. The few I've had have been both sweet and sour in different locations on the same apple. Gravensteins, which are hard to find, have been excellent, as have the Macouns.
Only related because it includes the number 5: 5 Dutch Days, a celebration of all things Dutch in New York City begins Wednesday.
