7 World Trade Center, the first building being constructed at the World Trade Center site downtown, is nearing completion downtown. It's a handsome building. The concrete fortressness of the lower floors is hidden by a grated stainless steel facade. The main lobby facing Greenwich Street has a zipper of quotations selected by artist Jenny Holzer above the front desk. Curbed had more pictures of the zipper last week. If you look at those pictures you'll see the lobby has a purplish glow that my photo didn't capture. The same is true around the outside of the building. There are tiny purple lights hiding behind the facade. It was purple enough to be noticeable, but not so much as to be tacky.
Art: If you like plastic cups, art, or topographic maps (and who doesn't like all three), head on over to the Pace Wildenstein gallery on West 22nd. They are displaying a work by Tara Donovan that has to be seen to be believed. There's a sneak preview on the gallery website, but it doesn't capture the grandeur of the work. The exhibit runs through April 22nd and is at Pace Wildenstein, 545 W. 22nd.
that first photo makes me dizzy

None at all. Lots of security cameras but I didn't see a single person guarding the place.
