Mullinville was the last destination on my trip. From there it was a long drive to Denver so I could fly home the next day. After seeing all that art where better to stop for a bite than Tacos Jalisco in Dodge City? The carne asada burrito and tamarindo soda hit the spot. If only we could get burritos that could in New York...
I made a couple of non-photo stops in Kansas in search of ice cream. I didn't find any in Holcombe, but I'm pretty sure I saw the Clutter house. Fifty miles away, and thirty degrees colder, I found an ice cream place in Syracuse. The woman at the ice cream place told me they hadn't had snow in five years and that she had been to New York City once (it was a lot of fun).
I walked around the center of town. The old movie theater is really nice and still showing films. I heard tinny music fading in and out as I walked around. The music was slightly muffled so I thought it was coming from a car with its windows closed, but there were no cars around. Several buildings had second story apartments, so one of the apartments must be the source I thought. But that didn't make sense given that the volume kept changing. When the music got loud again I stopped walking and looked around. Sure enough, every couple of buildings on the block were loudspeakers attached to light poles. Were they there to keep teenagers from hanging out? If so, it was very effective.
That's it for Kansas. If that wasn't enough I really like Cheryl Unruh's Flyover People site. A couple more Colorado photos to wrap up this trip and then it is on to Germany.
You were lucky to have the best Mexican food in the world. I live in RI now and boy do I miss me some Taco J's!!
