I'm here at home waiting for my laundry to dry so I thought I would share yesterday's lunch. I had barbecue three times while in Alabama. Once at Greenbrier's outside of Huntsville, once at "Big Bob" Gibson BBQ in Decatur, and once at Whitt's in Athens. The bbq at Greenbrier's was okay. Whitt's was better, their pork sandwich included slaw and a slice of pickle.
Big Bob's pulled pork sandwich ($2.99) was about as close to heaven as a person gets on earth. The smoky meat is served with finely chopped coleslaw on a slightly toasted bun. There was red sauce and white sauce for the bbq. The white sauce is a northern Alabama specialty that you can make yourself. I tried both and preferred the red. Measuring up to the pork were the spicy baked beans and the enormous slice of coconut cream pie.
One odd thing about Big Bob's was the floor. The tile was really slippery. It looked spotlessly clean, but it felt like I was going to wipe out with every step.
Time for another trip!
DAMN! That looks good!
I feel fat though, just looking at those pictures. ;-)
BBQ is the BEST, and when you get a crazing, nothing else will do!

It was mighty good! The sandwich was on the small side, which is what allowed me to have another sandwich at Whitt's a hour later.

It wasn't like anything I'd ever had before. I could taste mayo, vinegar and hot sauce or red pepper. I think it would have gone better on bbq'd chicken compared to the pork. It was great on hush puppies!
