Uhh...
The downtown express line track bed is being replaced near 59th St. so there's heavy equipment on the downtown line and lots of construction crap on the uptown express line.

We ran in to this yesterday. Took the 2 (local) uptown on the local tracks and took the 1 downtown winding up on the express tracks. Wound up walking a few stops but hey, this is NY.
