Looking through the photo slush pile that is my hard drive I saw these pictures of a Ford Torino GT taken in Amherst, Massachusetts. This is either a 1968 or 1969 model. The yellow house to the left of the car in the top photo is Emily Dickinson's house. The white house in the second picture is her brother's. It is a little known historical fact but the Dickinson siblings hated Fords. It is said they had a Calvin peeing on the Ford logo sticker on the back window of their Duryea Motor Wagon made in nearby Chicopee.
Ha! Wasn't that also the vehicle they had flames painted down the side of?

She even wrote a poem about it:
It tossed and tossed,—
A little Ford I knew,—
O’ertook by blast,
It spun and spun,
And groped delirious, for morn.
It slipped and slipped,
As one that drunken stepped;
Its white walls tripped,
Then dropped from sight.
Ah, Ford, good-night
To crew and you;
The Duryea's heart too smooth, too blue,
To brake for you.
