Upside-down Big Dipper
Orion
Since Springdale is far from most city lights and at an elevation of 3900 feet I figured I might be able to get a couple of good star pictures. The camera was limited to thirty seconds of exposure time because I don't have a cable release so the pictures didn't come out as bright as I'd like. Still, there's a lot more stars than I can see looking out my Manhattan window.
Awesome, Joe.
Hey, the other night, the local planetarium dude gave a talk. I asked about stargazing in town and he mentioned the silo effect - that if you stand in a silo, you have all that darkness immediately around you and you can see stars better. He suggested that in town one might find a place where you are surrounded by trees to block offending light, but still have a shot of sky overhead. That might work between tall city buildings, too.

Interesting. I may have to give it a try. The trick will be finding buildings that aren't too bright.

Banks aren't very bright these days. Find two stupid banks and stand between them.
(Oh, followed your link. I see what you mean. Sha-zam!)
