A Visit to Lake Ontario

Despite the 30 mph winds the day after Thanksgiving was a good day for a walk along Lake Ontario.  Actually not.  It was pretty miserable out there.  The Oswego Harbor Lighthouse has been there since 1934 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Orange, Red and Yellow Leaves

I thought we should go with festive leaves today.  The blog surpassed the million page view mark this morning.  This is the 1985th post, the first was made on October 11th, 2003 and did not include a photo.  Since then there have been 3688 comments.  The abandoned bicycles photo album, with 170 photos, went over a million page views years ago.  Typepad stopped providing statistics for photo albums after one of their upgrades so I've got no idea how many hits it is up to now.

A Day Apart

The leaves in the top scan were fresh off the shrub yesterday.  The bottom scan is from this morning.  I believe these are witch hazel leaves.  I found them by the 120th Street stairway in Morningside Park.

Green to Brown

A rainbow of English Oak leaves.  At least I think these are English Oak leaves.  From a couple of trees on 117th Street.  The scanner makes the leaves look brighter and more colorful than they actually are.  I don't have the skill, or desire, to make them their true dull selves.

Canstruction 2010

Canstruction 2010 has been in the World Financial Center the past couple of weeks raising money and food to feed the hungry.  Some of the canstructions were very ingenious!  You can't really make it out in the photo above but the hugging cans are a perfect marriage of evaporated milk and chocolate syrup.  The show ends on Monday, which may be good given that the green beans are about to spill.

Freakin' Ficus Fruit

The ficus plant in the atrium of our building at work decided to bear fruit this fall.  As best I can recall this is the first time the plant has produced fruit in the twelve years I've worked in the building.  You can tell by the dust on the leaves that the tree gets a lot of TLC.

More Grazers

These are the beasts I saw on my way to lunch this noon.  The deer on the left is our friend from last week.  The other deer was limping and doesn't look too healthy.  Old Tom completely ignored me as I stopped to take his picture.

Oak Leaves

Seventeen oak leaves borrowed from a tree on 117th Street.

I've been scanning leaves again this fall.  I hadn't planned to do so, but I keep finding interesting leaves to gather.

Oak leaves don't exhibit a wide range of color but they are, by far, the best smelling leaves I've gathered.

Scaffolding Up on the Baptist Temple

The roof fell in more than a year ago on the Baptist Temple that's squeezed between the Kalahari and 1400 on Fifth.  I figured that building was a goner but there were workers there on Saturday erecting scaffoling.  Are they going to repair the building or take it town?

Late Season Mums

The mums in the Central Park Conservatory Garden have about run their course.  I guess we all know what that means.
