Plowing Away

For the second morning in a row 120th Street gets plowed and sanded despite the almost complete absence of snow or ice on the street.  Will it get plowed again Thursday morning?

Salt Mound

After every snowfall it is pretty much guaranteed that this spot on the east side of 116th and Morningside Drive will have a mound of sandy salt.  I'm guessing the Parks Dept. dumps a load here to spread on the stairs down the park, but that's just a guess.

In other snow removal news... all of us waiting for the 8 a.m. bus watched as a snow plow sanded and plowed a mostly bare 120th Street this morning.  The block was very clean afterwards.

Point to ponder:  What do we make of the fact that Elena Kagan and Lady Gaga grew up within 3-4 blocks of each other on the Upper West Side?  A generation removed, to be sure, but still...

Why, in this time of fiscal restraint, is the city painting its traffic poles black?

Dinosaur in Morningside Heights

Another street find!  This time it was a parasaurolophus on a traffic signal box at 111th and Broadway.  Lucky for me and the other passersby parasaurolophus is a gentle herbivore.  I righted the poor para, fed it some lettuce, took an out-of-focus picture, and went on my merry way.

A recent view of the science building being constructed at Columbia. I could have sworn there was a photo on here of just the building frame but I can't find it.  Maybe I took a photo and never put it up.
