The world, or at least a paper towel dispenser at a San Francisco International Airport men's room, begins to catch up with me!

Only one reader knows what I am talking about so I better commence with a story.  At one point during my Nebraska days there was a drought and the city of Lincoln began taking water conservation measures. 

Since a drinking fountain was across the hall from the graduate student office, I decided to help the city out.  A sign that said something like "Drink only what you need" was placed above the fountain.  You couldn't drink from the fountain without seeing the sign.  Admittedly the sign wasn't going to stop depletion of the Ogallala Aquifer, but it was fun watching students do a double-take before getting a drink of water.

They Make a Cute Couple

Mrs. Shake is in Mohawk, NY and Mister Shake is but ten miles away near Richfield Springs.

Bloomingdale's

Bloomingdale's has certainly gotten their money's worth out of this ad.  As far as I can tell the ad, between 115th and 116th Streets on Lexington Ave, is about a century old.

Science, This Exit

Seen on I-35 while driving from Des Moines to Ames.   A railroad connects Huxley and Maxwell.  I wonder the person responsible for naming towns along the railway named these two after Thomas Henry Huxley and James Clerk Maxwell?

Ethnic Food

Sigh.  I wonder what a pastrami on rye is called?  At the Snook Inn, Newton, Iowa.  To be fair I saw these grinders advertised in several different Iowa towns.

Standard Welcome to Troy

Sigh.  No ice cream in Troy, despite the nifty welcome sign cluster.

The Standard Oil sign appears to be the design Amoco (nee Standard Oil of Indiana) used from 1946 to 1960.

Welcome to Fairview

Fairview, Kansas isn't much bigger than the sign that welcomes you to town.  No ice cream stands were spotted.  On to Hiawatha.  Surely the overheated traveler can get an ice cream in Hiawatha.
